Party-proof your makeup

If you're throwing a party, one of the last things you should have to worry about is your makeup.

Unfortunately, the responsibilities that come with being the hostess with the mostest can present a real beauty challenge: If you're faced with the stress of last-minute details, a main course that's threatening to burn and those long-lost relatives who've decided to show up an hour early, how do you ensure that you're suitably primped to party?

Just avoid high maintenance makeup that requires a lot of touch-ups and instead follow a few of these party-proof beauty tips.

1. More primer, less touch-ups

If you use foundation, consider wearing it over a good face primer. In addition to helping your skin look smoother, a primer will help your foundation to last longer, which ultimately means less touch-ups and less time spent in the mirror.

Similarly, a great eye primer will go a long way in keeping your eye makeup looking fresh and minimizing smudges and smearing.

2. Powder-free blotting papers are your best friend.

While your primer will help your makeup last longer, you might still get a case of the shinies -- particularly if you have oily skin. Rather than messing around with face powder, opt for facial blotting tissues. Not only are blotting papers quick and easy to use, but they also eliminate the risk of looking chalky in photos as well as the risk of spilling powder on yourself when you're in a rush.

3. Swap lipstick for gloss or tinted lip balm.

Unless you wear lipstick regularly and you're super comfortable with applying it quickly and neatly, you're way better off wearing a lipgloss or tinted lip balm. Just keep a tube in your pocket for quick touch-ups with no mirror required.

4. Tame your tresses

If you have longer hair, consider wearing it in one of the world's most fuss-free hairstyles: the classic ponytail. It's easy, neat, and can be dressed up easily with a fancy hair clip, chic headband or pretty scarf.

5. Relax and smile

When you have a house full of friends and family to entertain, there's a million other things to think about besides your makeup. While the tips that I listed above should keep you looking fab all the way through after-dinner drinks, the very best beauty secret is to make sure you smile and take the time to truly enjoy celebrating with the people you love.
